A few updates..
The fruits of my recent attempts to return to the "old media" of magazine writing are finally starting to materialize. I've got a new review in the Washington Monthly this month of Chicago labor lawyer Tom Geoghegan's new book, See You in Court: How the Right Made America a Lawsuit Nation (which is only available in the print edition). I really wanted to love his book, as I agree with much of the premise, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Still, lawyers will probably enjoy it. Geoghegan is a good writer with a wry sense of humor...
I've also got a piece in the New Republic this week about the federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and its attempts to prevent state attorneys general from pursuing consumer protection actions against big national banks, which you can find here.
Next month, I'm starting a new job in a real office, for a change. Mother Jones magazine has just opened a Washington bureau, and I'll be on staff there working as part of the investigative team. I'll be blogging for them as well, so I haven't quite figured out what to do with The Tortellini, but hopefully I will be able to manage both. As always, tips will be appreciated!
